The anti-corruption bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chennai, arrested Yellamilli Rinkesh, a superintendent, and Ramkesh Meena, an inspector of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in connection with a bribery case in the Ranipet Range.
CBI said a case was registered on Tuesday against the superintendent following a complaint that he demanded a bribe of 30,000 to facilitate clearance of a GST registration. After negotiations, he agreed to accept 15,000 from the complainant.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap the same day and caught the superintendent while he was demanding and accepting the bribe amount of 15,000.
During the operation, the involvement of a GST inspector also came to light.
The inspector attempted to destroy evidence by dropping it in a toilet commode and flushing it upon noticing the trap team.
However, the amount was recovered by the officials. Both accused officials were arrested, and further investigation is underway, CBI said.
