Relief for EPF members:
No documents required in new simplified process by EPFO to update these profile related details
Jan 22, 2025
Synopsis
EPF Members can update details such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father or mother's name, marital status, spouse's name, joining and departing dates, and date of birth, without having to upload any supporting documents.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has significantly simplified the process of updation of member profiles, which can benefit Rs.3.9 lakh members with pending requests. Such members can now cancel pending requests and resubmit them under the simplified process.
According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release as on January 19, 2025, “At present, around 27% of the grievances filed by the members relate to member profile/KYC issues and with the introduction of the revised JD functionality, it is expected that there shall be drastic reduction in the number of grievances being filed by the members.”
Which EPF members can update details without documents?
According to the updated process, members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) has already been verified via Aadhaar can update their personal information on the EPFO portal.
Which EPF details can be updated?
Members can update details such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father or mother's name, marital status, spouse's name, joining and departing dates, and date of birth, without having to upload any supporting documents.
Is employer certification required for such changes?
The update would only need the employer's certification in specific situations if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017.
Previously, changes required verification from the employer, which caused delays of up to 28 days. Now, 45% of requests can be self-approved by members, and another 50% require only employer approval without the involvement of EPFO.
However, one important thing to note is that members should ensure that their Aadhaar and PAN are linked to their EPF account, as this is mandatory for any updates or withdrawals. Inconsistencies between EPF details and your Aadhaar may delay approvals. Changes may take a few weeks to process, depending on the response times of the employer and EPFO.
How to update latest EPF profile details?

Step 2: Enter your UAN (Universal Account Number), password, and captcha to log in.
Step 3: After logging in, click on the 'Manage' tab in the top menu.
Step 4: Select the option 'Modify Basic Details' if you need to update personal details like name, date of birth, or gender.
Step 5: Fill in the required fields with the correct information as per your Aadhaar card. Ensure consistency between your EPF account and Aadhaar details.
Step 6: Upload supporting documents if necessary (e.g., Aadhaar card, PAN card, or birth certificate).
This update streamlines the process, making it quicker and more convenient for EPF members while reducing errors and complaints. There is no need for a certification from an employer in some cases.
