'Organised nexus of CAs and crypto traders': What ED officials found during raid at Delhi farmhouse

New Delhi, Nov 29, 2024

An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team conducting a raid at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi's Bijwasan was allegedly attacked, leaving one officer severely injured. The raid, led by AD Suraj Yadav, encountered resistance from the farmhouse owner, chartered accountant Ashok Kumar, and his relatives. One person, Yash, has been arrested for the assault, and a case has been registered.

A team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was allegedly attacked while conducting a raid at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi's Bijwasan. One of the officials was severely assaulted and injured. Police apprehended one person in the case.

Deputy commissioner of police (Southwest) Surender Choudhary said the incident took place at a farmhouse when the ED team, led by AD Suraj Yadav, was conducting the raid. Ashok Kumar, a chartered accountant, owns this farmhouse.

Sources claimed that Kumar and his relatives allegedly assaulted the ED officials. Though the ED team was supported by two CRPF officers, it had to request for one more CRPF cop for assistance.

A case was registered against the accused for obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty, and criminal intimidation. One of the accused, Yash, was held.

An ED official said that their headquarters intelligence unit was conducting the probe. As part of this, thousands of cybercrime cases, including phishing, QR code scams, part-time job scams, and call centre frauds, were analysed by the agency.

"It was found that an organised nexus of chartered accountants and crypto traders was existing. Around 15,000 mule accounts were used to launder the proceeds of cybercrimes. Debit and credit cards were obtained and used to top up virtual accounts on a wallet, which were then further layered to buy cryptocurrency," the official added.

"Searches, which will continue in the coming days, were conducted at many locations on Thursday. In Bijwasan, Kumar and his brother severely assaulted an ED officer and managed to escape after causing injury," the official further said.
