Gujarat GST dept raids coaching institutes, ‘finds Rs 7.49 crore in evasions’

Search and seizure operations were conducted against 11 coaching institutes, located at 36 places in the state, a statement on Tuesday said.

The Gujarat State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Department on Tuesday said it had raided 11 coaching institutes and found “evasions” to the tune of Rs 7.49 crore in preliminary investigations, with a total liability of around Rs 11.33 crore.

Based on information received by the Enforcement Branch of the State GST Department and analysis, search and seizure operations were conducted against 11 coaching institutes, located at 36 places including Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Gandhinagar, Godhara, Junagadh, Rajkot, Mehsana, Palanpur (Banaskantha), Surendranagar, Surat, Vadodara and Valsad on January 2, a statement from the department on Tuesday said.

During the investigation, several “irregularities” such as the misclassification of tax rate, wrongful availing of Input Tax Credit, and unaccounted sales were “noticed”, the department said.
