Big rejig: Key ministries to see new appointments

The government has announced a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, filling key positions in finance and economic ministries. Several IAS officers have been appointed to crucial roles, including revenue secretary, expenditure secretary, and secretary of the Department of Commerce. These changes aim to bring new leadership to vital departments amidst ongoing trade negotiations and economic developments.
The government announced a major bureaucratic reshuffle Friday, filling crucial posts in finance and other key economic ministries.
By July, the finance ministry will have a new team. A new commerce secretary has been announced almost six months in advance amid trade upheavals and the rush to close a deal with the US.
Arvind Shrivastava, a 1994 batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, will take over as revenue secretary, a key post that has been lying vacant since February. Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992 batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, will assume the role of expenditure secretary, replacing Manoj Govil.
Anuradha Thakur, a 1994 batch IAS officer and currently additional secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, will serve as an officer on special duty (OSD) in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance. She will take over as secretary of the department on June 30 as current DEA secretary Ajay Seth will superannuate. K Moses Chalai, a 1990 batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, will lead the Department of Public Enterprises, ending speculation over its merger with the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).
Rajesh Agarwal, a 1994 batch Manipur cadre IAS officer, will take over as secretary of the Department of Commerce on September 30, following the superannuation of incumbent Sunil Barthwal.

Manoj Govil, currently expenditure secretary, will become secretary, coordination, in the cabinet secretariat. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also approved appointment of Pankaj Kumar Mishra, Sanjay Bahadur, L Rajasekhar Reddy, and G Aparna Rao, 1989 batch Indian Revenue Service officers, as new members to the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
Other key appointments include Vandana Gurnani as secretary in the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Rajit Punhani as secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, effective July 1. Santosh Kumar Sarangi has been named secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Vivek Aggarwal, a 1994 batch IAS officer, who is currently an additional secretary in the Department of Revenue, has been appointed secretary, Ministry of Culture. Samir Kumar Sinha, a 1994 batch IAS officer, who is currently an additional secretary in the defence ministry, has been appointed civil aviation secretary. Hari Ranjan Rao, an lAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre will take charge as secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, on June 30 on the superannuation of Sujata Chaturvedi.
