The American Institute of CPAs’ Auditing Standards Board has released a new interpretation for practitioners performing attestations using more than one set of standards.
Attestation Interpretation No. 4 to AT-C section 105, Concepts Common to All Attestation Engagements (AICPA, Professional Standards), says a practitioner can perform and report on an attestation engagement in accordance with AICPA attestation standards along with another set of attestation standards, as long as they follow both sets of attestation standards in their entirety. Other sets of standards cited include those from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.
The document also offers some examples of extra language a practitioner can include in attestation reports to indicate the engagement was conducted in accordance with AICPA attestation standards and another set of standards, if the practitioner decides to reference both sets of attestation standards in the report.
