August 31, 2017

The last date for linking Aadhaar with PAN card is today i.e. August 31, 2017. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified that there would be no extension of this deadline.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has announced on July 31, 2017, it doesn't matter whether you have filed your ITR on or before the deadline of August 5, your income tax return will not be processed until you link your PAN and Aadhaar card.

Those who have applied for Aadhaar but have not received the Aadhaar card can provide acknowledgement number of their Aadhaar application.

In case you fail to link your Aadhaar with PAN on or before August 31, it will be treated as if you have not filed your returns for the financial year 2016-17. The ITR filed would become null and void. You may have to face the consequences applicable for not filing ITR.

In case ITR is not processed, no refunds will be credited to your bank account.

In order to check whether your Aadhaar is linked with PAN or not, you can simply login into your account on the income tax department's e-filing website -

Once you login, search for 'Profile Settings' Tab and click on it to see if your Aadhaar number is linked there.
